Are WEEE ready ?
As an end user, consultant or systems integrator it is important to also understand the impact of the Directive especially as you may also have to comply with certain parts of it. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing reuse and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. It seeks to achieve this by making producers responsible for financing the collection, treatment, and recovery of waste electrical equipment, and by obliging distributors to allow consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge. UK Regulations implementing the WEEE Directive came into force on 2 January 2007 and manufacturers and distributors have to comply with the Directive from 1 July 2007.
