York, the spiritual capital of the North of England for over 2000 years has invested more than £200K to bring its CCTV system up-to-date.

York is central to Britain's colourful past of Roman heritage, Royal Kings and Princes and Christian history. Today is a vibrant tourist attraction with its famous City walls, the National Railway museum and of course York Minster.

The original control system which supported over 60 cameras has been completely replaced with a new Meyertech ZoneVu command & control system operating from two sites incorporating a total of five operator positions.

The upgrade which was paid for out of the council's local transport plan allocation was installed and commissioned by Baydale Control Systems limited of Darlington.

Prior to the Meyertech upgrade, the local newspapers reported that over 18 of the cameras "failed to work". Councillor Ann Reid, city transport chief, who is responsible for CCTV and highway maintenance, said: "We will be saving money, but providing a better system. This is an example of council efficiency at its best."

The new ZoneVu equipment installed includes:

ZoneVu Series 3

A ZoneVu Series 3 video matrix

ZVS-MSI-48

Integration modules to control Ultrak, Panasonic and Sensormatic domes

45 x ZVR-530 telemetry receivers
ZVK-77D keyboard 5 x ZVK-77D system keyboards
