New Scotland YardMeyertech has recently completed a contract to deliver and commission the complete video routing system for London's Metropolitan Police Service's Integrated Command and Communications System (ICCS) project in the form of their industry benchmark ZoneVu Series 3 video matrix, supporting systems and software.

Sales Manager of Meyertech, Terry Parkes stated: "This is an important contract for Meyertech and one which underlines the significant role that high performance analogue video matrix systems have to play in projects of this scale".

"When the ICCS project is complete our ZoneVu Series 3 system will be at the heart of one of the largest integrated CCTV systems in the World".

The ICCS project which is led by Austrian global company Frequentis GmbH, will support the introduction of the MPS's (Metropolitan Police Service), new Central Communications Command function (CCC). The CCC is part of the MPS's long-term solution to the massive growth in demand via 999 calls for policing services. Over the next two years the MPS's 32 Borough based control rooms, the emergency 999 service, telephone operator centres - and special events and major incident support services will be consolidated into a new service operated out of three buildings across London.
Meyertech Managing Director, Stuart Meyers went on to say: We are proud to be involved in a project which, when fully commissioned will be one the preeminent integrated systems in the world.

The contract is part of a nine-year development, delivery and service contract awarded to Frequentis GmbH which, will deliver an Integrated Command and Communications System to the MPS on which to operate its legacy radio dispatch system, MetRadio, CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) monitoring operations and the new Airwave digital radio network. Meyertech supplied their ZoneVu Series 3 system to Tyco Integrated Systems who were appointed by Frequentis to integrate the CCTV element of the contract.

MPS Director of Communication Services, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ron McPherson, says the delivery of the ICCS will be an important step forward for the organisation:

"Once we have integrated information between our call handling databases, radio and CCTV through this communications platform, our officers will be equipped with all the essential knowledge required to respond to incidents more effectively.

Along with our ongoing programme of work that is refining our call handling processes - and the introduction of the Airwave radio system into the organisation, we aim to offer an even better service to people in London while co-ordinating our resources more efficiently."

The ZoneVu Series 3 video matrix system was chosen for the project for its class-leading performance in bandwidth, cross-talk, and modular design, expandability, integrated diagnostics with back-up and restore and fault tolerant dual-redundant design.

Incorporating Mega-density routing technology it significantly reduces the amount of inter-connecting cables required to realise large-scale video routing systems thereby improving overall system reliability. Another attractive feature was it's low-power operating requirements making it exceptionally environmentally friendly.

The Series 3 is 100% non-blocking, which means any video input can be switched to any output or any number of outputs including all of them simultaneously.

The ZoneVu Series 3 is a modular video matrix system comprising five basic modules:

ZVS3-VRM video routing module
ZVS3-VOM video output module
ZVS3-VOTM video text module (OSD)
ZSC-1000plus video matrix manager
ZVS3-PSU-RD dual redundant power supply module
ZVS3-PSU-OD dual redundant power supply module

The Metropolitan Police Service has a worldwide reputation and has a unique place in the history of policing. It is the largest of the police services operating in the United Kingdom. Sir Robert Peel founded the Metropolitan Police Force in 1829. The original establishment of 1,000 officers policed a seven-mile radius from Charing Cross and a population of less than two million.

Today, the Metropolitan Police Service employs 30,235 officers, 11,966 police staff, 493 traffic wardens and 1392 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), and, since the realignment of police boundaries in April 2000, it covers an area of 620 square miles and a population of 7.2 million.
